eobiont, pronounced ee-OH-bee-ont - literally the dawn of life, is a rare English word first coined by the microbiologist N. W. Pirie during his research into the origins of life. He used it to describe what could be considered a primordial life form. An eobiont would theoretically be a self-contained chemical structure that could reproduce itself and also evolve, thus possessing the basic prerequisites of what we understand as a living entity.
